Potting is the immersion of a component into a liquid resin until all components are covered. The compound is then cured into a solid mass. When the potting compound is dried and hardened all components are encased. This protects the electrical components from humidity, dust, vibrations and shock such as for waterproof circular connector applications. It also enhances electrical insulation, flame retardation and assembly robustness during transportation and installation.

Furthermore, encapsulation involves placing your assembly or component within the CNC machined cavity of a mould tool. The tool is then filled with a casting resin or polyurethane until set. The waterproof circular connector is then permanently encased within the casting. Since potting/encapsulation can enclose an entire electronic assembly, the casting creates a barrier against the elements and resistance to shock and vibration, hence, it is suitable for waterproof connector for waterproof electric connections.
